A Short Break In Transmission

BritishBeautyBlogger will be away until Wednesday 6th August.

Tips From The Top

Make up artist Lou Page, who has worked on looks for The Spice Girls, Travis and Catherine Jenkins has a top tip for perfectly made up eyes:

"If you want seamless definition when applying make up over the outer corners of the eyes and up to the brows, use a small piece of gift tape to create the right angle. You can blend, blend, blend without fear of going over the edges, and when you're done, whip away the tape, and hey presto! Precision eyes with a clean, sharp edge that looks professionally done."

Straight Up: Babyliss Pro 230 Radiance

Have just had the good fortune to try the Babyliss New Pro 230 Radiance straighteners - available from the end of this month. They really do deliver on the promise to keep hair straight for twice as long as others. Cermamic-titanium plates whisk through hair, ironing out the merest hint of a curl effortlessly. There's also an ionic steam option to flatten out frizz and retractable de-tangling fins to ensure a glassy finish. Everything comes in a ruby metallic carry case including a heat mat. Remember, straighteners are a proper addiction just like caffeine, and these are the ultimate fix! 100 pounds from Argos and Boots.

Gentle Showers: Sensitiveskincareco

While this shower attachment isn't a thing of beauty, it does a great job of filtering out all the chlorine from your tap water, so showering is altogether more gentle on the skin and hair. Shampoo and soap froths like crazy so you need to adjust how much you use, and I've definitely noticed that my skin is softer post shower. If you live in a hard water area or are chlorine sensitive, its definitely a good investment. At 35.95 pounds from the people with the prettiest illustrations ever,, it's primarily for those who suffer with excema or similar skin irritations, but I'd say the main benefit for me has been softer hair. It's also really easy to attach - hey, if I can do it.........

Flutter By: Fresh Firebird Mascara

I've been using this gorgeous Firebird Mascara from Fresh that uses an ultra-soft brush to ensure precision application and lush, jet black coating of lashes. Not only is the packaging absolutely exquisite - and a real show stopper to pull out of your handbag to touch up - but the product inside is irrisitibly good. I haven't had any smudging or flaking and 3 coats seems to last all day.

Hot Weather Water: Shu Uemura

These gorgeously refreshing Depsea Water Facial Mists from Shu Uemura are just the thing to instantly perk up both your senses and your skin. In two therapeutic consistencies - relaxing or refreshing - the waters (containing 60 face friendly minerals) come in a variety of fragrances - I love the sound of Mint, Lavender or Rose for spritzing away the heat.

Say, What? Pearl Drops

She says tomayto - he says tomahto.....the girl in the Pearl Drops Anti-Ageing Tooth Whitening ad calls it Aunty-Ageing. Why?

I've Seen It All Now

Ok so call me jaded but I really did think I'd seen every single angle on beauty, anti-ageing and body refinements, but my trawl through some US sites brought this shocker. Get ready ...... vaginal bleaching cream! Basically, its for those who aren't um, happy with their interiors, shall we say, and feel it needs a little freshening up in the lightening and brightening department. There's a huge opportunity that I'm going to completely resist to get into the politics of beauty here - I think the absurdity of the product speaks for itself without my view. Let me know what you think though - would you try it?

Another Hmmm!

While looking for fab finds, I came across these, um, unusual ways to work a look. Pre-loaded with mineral colours, the disposable applicators 'transfer' the colours to your eye lids so there's zero work involved in creating dramatic eyes. However, I'm thinking that the one's I've highlighted are possibly a look too far. I think it's just brought home that zebra eyes aren't ever going to work on anyone!

Big and Clever: Lancome

The best part of Lancome's autumn collection, Maharani Jewels, is Poudre Elephant Teint - a limited edition bronzer. As an homage to India, the collection features new Juicy Tubes packaging (think henna tattoo swirls), a Secrets of Benghal palette in beautiful earthy shades and a three smoky khol pencils to get eyes really smouldering. So far its the most impactful fall collection and I'll be snapping it up!

Recovering Well: RMK Recovery Gel

RMK's latest wonder cream is Recovery Gel (38 pounds). Fragranced with pink grapefruit in a gel formula, it's wonderfully cooling on the skin. Packed with microspheres containing Ceramide D for intense moisturisation, it's best used at night, and make sure you massage well when applying to improve your skin's circulation and give it that extra plumpness.

Moon Light: Cire Trudon

Cire Trudon is France's oldest candle making establishment. Despite a heritage steeped in royal connections, churches and wars, the company are forward thinkers, thanks in the main to creative director, Ramdane Touhami of L'Epicerie fame. Fragrances are themed around buildings, people and dreams, and by that I mean Madam Pompadour (La Marquise; rose and citrus), Lavandieres (young girls drying their washing on Lavender bushes - Manon; lavender, orange and cotton) and Napoleon Bonaparte (Empire; lavender, marjoram and laurel). They are also purveyors of what must be the worlds most extraordinary scent; Odeur De Lune - Smell of The Moon. Metallic notes derived from NASA moon landings soil analyses form the base of the curious, sulphuric smell. The scent is a collaboration between Cire Trudon and artist Philippe Parreno and is part imagination (obviously, because nobody actually knows what the moon smells like!), and part true aromatic smoked woods. The top notes comprise Metallic sulphur and Kerosene, the heart Black Coal and Saltpetre, and the base Metal Infusion and Smoked Seasoned Wood. It's quite the most extraordinary smell and I really could believe that's what the moon smells like. I didn't say I liked it though! My favourite is Dada; a blend of Mint, Tea and Chamomile. Just delicious. Cire Trudon Candles at Liberty, 45 pounds.

New Skin Care Range: ZO Skin Health

Guru is an overused word, but when it comes to Zein Obagi it's kind of apt. What that man doesn't know about skin health and function probably isn't worth knowing. Which is probably why his latest venture, ZO Skin Health, has been snapped up as an exclusive by Harrods from August, and then Selfridges get their hands on it around December. The very fact that London's two biggest beauty department both want it, like NOW, means it's going to be a biggie. Strong concentrations of powerful ingredients will, apparantly, get skin into the optimum health for ageing beautifully. I love the idea that it evens out skin tone - a real problem for those who've sunbathed or have post acne/spot scars - with so many products that don't get rid of uneven tone, it will be a real breakthrough to have one that does. I've already trialled ZO Exfoliator - it's phenomenal - my skin feels like I've just had a facial, but it is powerful. I'd hesitate to recommend that particular product for very sensitive skins. Specially devised regimes for the condition your skin is in will be given - Level 1 Fight Hard, Level II Fight Harder and Level III for the truly knackered. Naturally none of this is going to come cheap....prices kick off at about 41 pounds, but if it works to its potential then it will be cash well spent.

Let's All Go To A Webinar!

A what? Well, its a seminar on the web - and very popular they are too in the States. Well attended webinars can take you from zero to hero and you don't even need to provide warm fizz and canapes. Sweet and Simple: Simple

Extra late night? Or just a complete beauty couch potato moment? If you just can't be bothered to go through the whole cleanse, tone, moisturise routine before bed, a quick whisk around with these new wipes from Simple will easily do the trick leaving you free to sleep without a guilty conscience. Added moisturisers, light reflecting particles and toning mango ought to have your skin glowing. I haven't tried them yet, but love the sound of these quick fixers for lazy days. 3.99 pounds.

Blue Is The Colour: Avon

Q: How do you know when a beauty product is going to be a sell-out? A: When it looks like this. The collaboration between Avon and Finnish design house, Marimekko is probably the most exciting make up collection this year. Bold, bright and experimental, you'll be spotting The Marimekko for Avon Colour Collection in every single magazine, everywhere. From 26th August 2008.

Magic Nails: Kiss Color Magnet

'Must-have' has to be one of the most over-used phrases...but really, this product is one! Kiss Color Magnet, coated on before nail polish, ensures that the colour stays put - it's cut down so radically on chipping that I can't quite believe my eyes. OPI lasted perfectly for a full week - this week Chanel is showing signs of doing the same. Color Magnet is a little gem that should make it's way into everyone's manicure kit.

Nailed It In Paris: OPI

Courtesy of Queen of Beauty Blogs, Blogdorf Goodman, the OPI new collection, La Collection de France sounds delicious. Nudes, chocolates, burgundy and smokey violets with some creative naming going on.....Tickle My France-y, Crepes Suzi-ette and A Oui Bit of Red. My nails are rebelling against the neons now. No pics as yet. But we all know what burgundy looks like, right?

Sneaky Sale: Pur

Organic skin care brand, Pur, has some wonderfully exotic mixes - and I love their packaging..much more exciting than other organics...There's a sale going on quietly on their website, with a pound or two off, so it's worth stocking up on the good stuff.

Another Hmmmm: Beauty Magnets

Described in the blurb as 'mysterious', these Beauty Magnets apparantly lift and revive your skin by 'increased circulation fighting gravity'. Blasting your face with positive energy will apparantly show great results. It should also be noted that if you have a pacemaker, are pregnant or chronically ill, you should consult a healthcare professional. I'm thinking - pressed as our doctors are - they'll be intrigued to be asked by their patients whether covering their face in magnets for an hour in the interests of beauty could set them on a whole new heart rhythm. I'm curious to know whether they fall off if you move - that could prove to be very irritating. You know, if the phone goes...or you sneeze. Anyway, if you want to try them, they're available at for 9 pounds 95p.
